Navy Blue Chalk Paint – You’ve already seen it. Chalk paint or chalk paints are everywhere. You will see them in many paint shops and in almost all crafts and DIY. There are a lot of brands with a wide enough colorful, reasonable prices and in my experience. And I already have a few pieces. The final finish is practically the same as matte or satin acrylic paintings, that is, provided we follow a similar process. I have made furniture with both and I give you my word that it has proved impossible to know what painting was each thing.

The main advantage of navy blue chalk paint, which by the way are not new invention since they have been in the market for years (I discovered Annie Sloan’s chalk paint for at least 5 years), is that they do not need primer, it is say, adhere well to any surface (glass, metal, varnishes …), as any primer. And that, of course, is an incentive to take very into account if we are going to face the work of giving a change to an antique furniture and save us a few hours of work or use less materials. However, and this is important for me to tell you: I usually always remove the varnishes from my furniture. Except in this example and little else. Manias of mine.

Basically, to paint a piece of furniture without removing the varnishes we have two options: to paint with paintings that stick together, like the navy blue chalk paint, or to use a primer and then to apply any type of paint or enamel. Water primers go wonderfully, but the colors are often limited to white, black and some red, green or blue and little else. In addition, the chalk paintings are great when you want to wear out the edges, give a pickled effect and let the wood of the furniture underneath. With a primer of color different from that of paint, by wearing the edges, you would see those different layers of paint before reaching the wood underneath.

If you are going to paint a chest of drawers, coffee table or any furniture with doors or drawers I recommend that you do not abuse the paint on the sides of drawers or doors. They have to be able to open and close! You may need to sand first so that the paint occupies the space of the old varnishes. If you see that they go well before painting, you will have no problem with the navy blue chalk paint ideas.
